If you do not have a FTP client or would prefer to use a Web-based FTP tool, then please use SiteControl's FTP tool. In addition to the convenience of using SiteControl, you also do not have to manually configure the settings as you would on a FTP client; SiteControl's FTP tool is pre-configured just for you and your domain. Since you have already been authenticated to use SiteControl, there is no need to authenticate yourself again to use FTP. Simply launch it in SiteControl and it will be immediately available to you.
To use the SiteControl
FTP tool to upload and download files:
1 |
Click Website Tools in the main navigation menu of SiteControl |
2 |
Click Web based FTP. |
3 |
Read the message on the page, and select the first Login button if your computer is behind a firewall, or the second Login button if not. |
4 |
If this is the first time, then you will be prompted by a security warning on which you ought to click Yes. |
5 |
A separate window will launch. The FTP interface is divided into two parts where the left half is your local computer and the right half is the remote server. |
6 |
Navigate the left half of the interface to find the file(s) you wish to upload to the server. To open a directory, double-click it. Once located, highlight those files (hold down the CTRL button to choose multiple files at once). |
7 |
Navigate the right half of the interface to find directory to which you wish to upload. In general, the directory will be the "www" directory. Double-click it to open the directory. |
8 |
If you're transferring a text file (such as HTML or Microsoft Office documents), then select the ASCII bubble in the bottom-middle of the interface; if you're transferring image or media files, then select Binary. |
8 |
Now click Upload button. (Reverse the steps to Download the files from the server to your computer.) |
9 |
When done, click Logout. |
The buttons along each pane enable you to work with the files and folders.
